TEDS Talks

Paul Piff: Does money make you mean?

This topic of TEDS Talks was about Paul Piff sharing his research, he have done some experiment on how people react to other if they were rich. The first experiment was done with Monopoly. Paul Piff show us using the big screen how the rich person change and treated the poor person after a while. He said that as people get more wealthy, they have less compassion empathy and more self-interest. At the end he talk about the 1% still donate money to the poor because of empathy.

The way he use visual in this topic is by showing picture and video on the big screen. He stop and explain to the audience than show them what he is talking about, this is effective because it let the audience see and know what he is talking about, and also talking alone can make people bored easily, so showing a video and making people focus on different place is a good way to not make people bored.

Through out the video he ask question but he don't use humor, there was some laughing but it was not as  much as the other topic I've seen. What I like is that his pace of talking is slow and clear, this give him more time to think about what he is going to say next, observe his listener, and this make people know that he serious

In conclusion, I enjoy this topic and was engaged in it. What he said made sense because he had good reason and research to prove his point. While I was watching it, I can clearly understand without re-watching it. All of his experiment was very smart and fun to watch and listen to.

Use of social media

Target and Disneyland using social media.

Social media is world-wide. Social Networks are an important platform with a high potential for reaching new customers. Companies and organizations do their "shout marketing," by using social more often to promote their brand, monitor trends among customers, and even research new product ideas. Also for any start up struggling to market or advertise their services due to lack of funds, had the opportunity to talk to millions of customers, send out messages, get fast feedback, and experiment with offers at relatively low costs.

Target:
Target has 17.5 Million Likes on Facebook and 1.41 Million followers on twitter. Twitter is using social media to draw people to buy more of their products and spreading so people will slowly start to come in the store. Putting a products out and getting fan to share than become loyalties, Target also drive people in stores by offering discounts, new offerings, and holiday products on its social channels, as said by Joe Curry when he wrote "5 ways Target uses social to drive brand loyalty".

McDonald's:
McDonald's has 21.7 Million Likes on Facebook and 2.59 Million followers on Twitter. McDonald"s has been one of the most well known fast foods in America. Simple advertising such as television, radio and computer ads already help improve their reputation. When Facebook and Twitter were created, many demographics used these social medias for different purposes. Because McDonald's is a bright and an improving business, they would use this advantage to lure more incoming and repeat customers. McDonald's would input their videos and online ads in Facebook to get the viewers' attention. Despite the fact of all the criticisms other people give for their unhealthy diets, McDonald's manages to use social media  to manipulate the customers into buying their                                                                     products.

Why i am at MATC

The reason why i attend MATC is because i wanted to study my general but  i was also thinking about trying out for IT because i was still undecided about my major and IT Networking was something that i consider.

This is my first year at MATC, I haven't got involved in any kind of program or job yet, i am stilling looking to see if IT is what i really want to do before i actually try to look for a job.

I was amazed by how people can build web page out of letters, how the computer know how to do what people wanted it to do, it hook me, but i wasn't sure if it was right for me.
